Then Gais went on double hits during Thursday’s training.
– He felt bad so we thought it was smartest to cancel, says coach Fredrik Holmberg about key player Joackim Åberg.

On Monday, the first Allsvenskan derby between Gais and IFK Gothenburg will be played in twelve years.

In Thursday’s training, key player Joackim Åberg stepped off the field after feeling crass. It turned out that the 25-year-old had a fever – and he immediately went home from Ullevi.

– It was a cold. I haven’t had time to talk to him now, but he felt bad so we thought it was smartest to cancel the training there, says coach Fredrik Holmberg to the Football Channel.

Then the loyal servant Jonas “Myggan” Lindberg stepped off with a feeling. The midfielder then had his left leg bandaged and he later limped off Ullevi after the pass.

– It was a small precaution. I had a little feeling for Kalmar, and I felt that it was tightening a bit now, so then it was better to leave, says Lindberg to Fotbollskanalen.

Does that worry you ahead of Monday’s derby?
– No, there are many days left. It was better to go off and do some rehab, so I aim to be in training on Saturday instead.

Furthermore, both Filip Beckman and Richard Friday are missing, both of whom have been withdrawn with long-term injury concerns. They will miss the derby on Monday, but are expected to be back in team training shortly, where they will be introduced carefully.

The derby between Gais and IFK Göteborg kicks off at 19.10 on Monday. There are only a few tickets left for the match in Gai’s lower standing section. Otherwise, the arena is sold out.
