Kylian Mbappé has announced that he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain.
A relief, the French capital club feels.
“Less ego and more focus on the collective,” said PSG, according to L’Equipe.

It has been one of the most talked about topics in world football, and on Friday night it became official. Kylian Mbappé announced that he is leaving Paris Saint-Germain after seven seasons.

– I have always said that I will talk to you when the time is right, so now I want to inform you all that this is my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend, and the adventure will end in a couple of weeks, he said in a clip on his Instagram account, going on to say:

– I will play my last game on Sunday at the Parc des Princes. It’s a lot of emotions. For many years I have had the chance and honor to be part of the biggest club in France and one of the best clubs in the world.

Mbappé has been rumored away from PSG for several years, but in the summer of 2022 he extended his contract with the French capital club and in the summer of 2023 he chose to complete that contract.

That the Frenchman’s departure is now official can be thought to be a heavy message for PSG. But new media reports claim that the reaction is rather the opposite: The club is relieved that Mbappé is leaving.

L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi shares a message from the club:

“It is the end of a long chapter. We can now continue to build a young, disciplined squad with less ego and a focus on the collective. What lies ahead is much more positive”.

The transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday evening that PSG simultaneously saves around 200 million euros, equivalent to 2.3 billion kroner, by not keeping Mbappé. According to Romano, it is about the fact that an extension over one year will not happen, and that PSG will not have to pay out a loyalty bonus of 80 million euros, equivalent to 934 million kroner.

PSG is also said to want to sign four or five players in the future to strengthen the squad

Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco in 2017, and has since scored 255 goals and 108 assists in 306 appearances.
