RB Leipzig continued their winning streak at home with a 2-1 victory against Young Boys in their final match of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Emil Forsberg’s second-half winner ensured Leipzig’s fifth consecutive home win and solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.

Despite both teams already securing their places in the next stage, the match was far from a dead rubber clash. Leipzig started strongly, with Benjamin Šeško appearing to give them the lead early on. However, the goal was disallowed due to a marginal offside decision.

The game remained evenly poised, with both teams eager to make a statement. Young Boys had their fair share of opportunities, with Cheikh Niasse forcing Leipzig goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi into a brilliant save from a flicked corner. However, it was Leipzig who broke the deadlock in the second half.

Šeško redeemed himself with a well-taken goal, courtesy of a Benjamin Henrichs assist. The young striker confidently finished with his left foot, finding the top left corner of the net. Young Boys quickly responded, as Jean-Pierre Nsame set up Ebrima Colley for his first-ever Champions League goal.

Leipzig, determined to maintain their winning form, swiftly regained the lead. Emil Forsberg unleashed a powerful low shot that found the bottom right corner of the net, leaving Young Boys’ goalkeeper David von Ballmoo rooted to the spot. This goal marked Leipzig’s fifth consecutive home match with at least two goals scored.

With the victory secured, Marco Rose’s Leipzig comfortably saw out the remaining minutes of the match. Despite a late disallowed goal from Ulisses Garcia, Young Boys were unable to mount a comeback. The result capped off a strong performance from Leipzig, who now look forward to their fourth Champions League knockout round in the past five seasons.

Although Young Boys ended their Group G campaign with a defeat, they showcased their ability to challenge formidable opponents. Raphaël Wicky’s side will now shift their focus to the Europa League, where they aim to continue their impressive run.

RB Leipzig’s victory against Young Boys not only extends their winning streak at home, but also highlights their potential as a strong contender in the UEFA Champions League. With their sights set on the knockout stages, Leipzig will be a team to watch as the tournament progresses.
